Cranberry Chutney

This is just a simple note to let you know how grateful I am for YOU. Thanksgiving is NEXT week. This year may be a little different for some of you. Perhaps your family gathering is a bit smaller than normal? Even if things are a bit different. I hope you get some time to relax and eat something delicious.

Years ago, we lived up in the mountains in Bishop, CA––far away from family. That year was different. A sweet little elderly lady and her husband invited us for dinner. She was about five foot nothing, and all of her children had passed away. Because we were alone, and they were lonely, she invited us for Thanksgiving dinner.

She spent days making a feast for us to enjoy. She was tickled to pull out her fancy dishes, her lace table cloth, and the crystal goblets. My favorite part of the feast was her homemade Cranberry Chutney. I'm sure my sweet little friend has since passed on, but her Cranberry Chutney recipe is now legendary.

Today, I'm sharing her recipe with YOU. I've changed it up a bit over the years to make it my own. It's a favorite at our house for sure! In fact, it's become so popular-- I always make a triple batch so I can share it with my friends. Cranberry Chutney day has become one of my favorite days of the holiday season because my house smells SOOO good.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I have. Remember, it's great after Thanksgiving too. Here are some of my favorite Cranberry Chutney pairings.

  • With turkey and stuffing of course...
  • On a turkey sandwich
  • With pork tenderloin
  • With roast beef
  • With pork chops
  • With chicken
  • On appetizers (chicken salad, on a toasted baguette, with a dollop of chutney is always a big hit!)
  • With Corned Beef and Cabbage in March (Yes, it can last that long in your refrigerator!)

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving––even if it's not exactly the way you have always done it in the past.
